ABOUT
Join us for a panel discussion on how women build creative practices and careers on their own terms. Artist Christine Welman brings together women from Milwaukee’s arts and design community, each with a different story of carving out her place in the creative world. Together, they’ll share the experiences that shaped their careers and the choices that helped them find their way.
The discussion takes place during the opening reception of “Athena on My Mind,” Welman’s solo art exhibition exploring Athena as both mythological figure and personal symbol. Through painting and poetry, Welman considers the courage it takes to grow into yourself, resist the forces that seek to define you, and continue creating along the way.
Together, the panel and exhibition ask what it is like to seek to become our fullest selves.
Author Description:
Christine Welman is an author and oil painter whose work bridges fine art and speculative fiction, exploring identity through story. Drawing on fairytales, myth, legend, and historical figures, her work often centers women while reimagining cultural archetypes. She believes the stories we tell ourselves shape who we become. Her writing and paintings explore what it means to be human and finding the courage to create the world we want to see.
Welman teaches oil painting and serves as curator at Mitchell Street Arts in Milwaukee, WI.
