Does Women's Wear Really WORK?

As a woman in the workplace, dressing for success is already complicated enough. Throw in the ever-shifting spectrum of corporate-to-casual options, a need for personal protective equipment, or the possible interpretations or unintended messages that clothing can trigger and “successful” dressing can be elusive goal.

How did a woman’s working wardrobe get to this point? Have we always been under such scrutiny for what we wore? Today’s increased freedom in work clothing, constant social media exposure and clothing as message (think of the white garments on the new Congresswomen) may actually be making it more complicated for women to decide what is appropriate work wear on the job.

WID and The Fashion Department at Mount Mary University invite you to explore this topic with a stimulating presentation and a panel discussion of Women in Design members. We’ll learn about the history of women’s work wear, decode some of the signals clothing can subtly send, discuss what's appropriate to wear in different fields, and we'll check out what a new crop of fashion brands are doing to make woman's wear WORK.
